'The Jam Session': A Black Music Month Poetry Project — Session #2 (Audio + Text)

The Jam Session is a poetry project curated during June in celebration of Black Music Month, and inspired by lyrics of Black musicians - Session #2: inspired by Goodie MOB.

A heaping helping of fried chicken/Macaroni and cheese and collard greens/Too big for my jeans ~ Goodie MOB (Cee-lo Green)

I admit/before life was a prick…of pinky to feed the glucose meter stick/most of my meals consisted of/all the ingredients that could biodegrade a bloodstream/pasta by the pound, the fast food special of the month, carbonated drinks/my belly was once a hostel for honey buns/Capri Suns, once my hydration after late night liquor left my morning tongue filmy & dried/these days I try, often in vain/vein to resist the impulses/curb stomp the carbs from my diet/my doctor says my elevated A1C can easily be brought back down to earth/my diabetes says ‘you keep fuckin around and you gon’ find out how many of your loved ones I helped lower beneath the soil’/my palette waffles between growing used to eats that will keep me on these streets/and craving the same buffet that would appear at my repast
