The first thing I saw on social media when I woke up on New Year’s Day was a post from a friend on Facebook that read “New Orleans… 😢😢💔💔💔,” and I was confused as to what had happened. I went to bed shortly after midnight on New Year’s Eve and slept uninterrupted so I was completely oblivious to the catastrophic event that had occurred overnight. It didn’t take more than another scroll down my newsfeed, and a quick Google search to see what my friend was referencing, and as I was reading the details out loud and my wife was waking up, she assumed I was reading about a shooting that had taken place.

When I told her exactly what happened, we were both in utter disbelief.
