'Progress Report' — How Might Dr. King Grade Us on Matters of Equality 60 Years After the Civil Rights Act of 1964?
A vlog post inspired by a recent article by WalletHub.com ranking which states have made the most racial progress since the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Happy King Day 2024!
I am experimenting with new forms of content and wanted to take advantage of Substack’s video recording capability to do a quick vlog about a recent article I read on WalletHub.com. The article titled “States with the Most Racial Progress (2024)” was sent out ahead of MLK Day 2024 and ranked the racial progress (or lack thereof) of each of the 50 states in the Union based on various metrics, with most of the measures of progress being tied to material wealth/financial ascendance of Black Americans.
Click the video above for my take on the data WalletHub reported, and how this information, though noteworthy, is only a fraction of what Martin Luther King Jr. envisioned for the humanity and progression of Black people in the U.S.
I plan to do more of these pieces and add the “whistles and bells” to their production as I go along. In the meantime, feel free to chime in with your thoughts, and if you have not considered becoming a paid subscriber to Observations in Blackness, I encourage you to do so.
